Welcome to the Utah EnvirothonOther FAQs:
How does the Envirothon process work?
Teams working under the direction of a team advisor prepare themselves for the
competition by studying and meeting with natural resource professionals. Students
are provided with learning objectives and study resources in each of the five
study areas. This information
is available on this web site or in the Utah
Envirothon Advisor's Handbook.
Utah Envirothon teams are scored on
two components. First, students are scored on an oral presentation given to a
panel of judges. Each team member must participate. The oral presentation is based
on a problem provided one month in advance to the Envirothon teams and is generally
related to the current issue. The oral presentation score is worth 200 points. The
following day at the outdoor competition, students rotate through five teaching/testing
stations where they participate in a hands-on learning experience and then are
tested as a team on their knowledge of the study area. Tests include multiple
choice, true/false and short answer questions. Each test is worth 100 points.
The team with the highest cumulative score out of a total possible 700 points
is the winning team. |
